Acne Skincare and Support in Fleet

Acne Care in Fleet

Acne is often an emotionally upsetting skin condition to live with, affecting your confidence and causing anxiety. Choosing to go it alone while trying to find a permanent solution to your acne is very often challenging. This is because acne is a multifactorial skin condition in which the skin is not the only organ involved. Other body systems, including the gut, the central nervous system, the endocrine system, and the brain, influence the skin and overall health, as do factors such as health, medications, lifestyle, stress, sleep, and more. As such, a holistic approach that focuses on your acne and on you as an individual is more likely to be successful in clearing it in the long term.

This is why in my studio in Fleet, Hampshire, I offer a functional approach that focuses on your skin barrier health, you, and the root causes of your acne. I don’t put you or your skin in a ‘Box’ and give you a generic acne product or treatment; I tailor my advice, skincare, and treatments, which is what makes them effective.

What is acne?

Acne is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that develops when hair follicles become clogged with oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and bacteria. The severity of acne can range from mild, with mostly blackheads and whiteheads and a few small papules and pustules (spots), to moderate, with more of the same. Severe acne (grade 4) symptoms include many deeper, inflamed spots, painful cysts and nodules, which can lead to scarring.

It’s important to know that acne is a complex condition and whilst it may be affected by hygiene practices, it is not caused by having a so-called ‘dirty skin’.

Microneedling Anti Ageing Treatment Fleet in my Studio

Microneedling for Post-acne Scarring

Microneedling is not used on active, inflamed acne. However, once your barrier is stronger and breakouts are more under control, it can be an excellent option for improving the appearance of:

U
Post-acne scarring
U
Uneven texture
U
Residual marks

We only move to this stage when your skin is robust enough to benefit from it, and always within a wider home-care and in-studio plan.

Who is Most Likely to be Affected?

Acne is a very common skin condition, affecting both teens and adults, in their 20s, 30s and 40s, with greater numbers of women affected than men.

For teenagers, it is important to distinguish between regular teenage spots and acne, which is characterised by inflammation and the presence of C. acnes bacteria. Dealing with the hormonal skin changes of puberty can be a challenging life stage for both teenagers and parents. Helping teenagers understand what is happening, how to properly care for their skin, along with some nutrition and lifestyle advice, can make the process easier. This is how I support teen clients.

Skincare and Home Care to Avoid with Acne

Many clients arrive with skin overwhelmed by skincare. This may involve constantly chopping and changing products, harsh cleansing, frequent exfoliation, spa and perfumed products, peeling acids or strong Retinol products. If this sounds like you, your skin is likely to be struggling to cope. Keeping your skincare gentle and simple may help more than you think.

My Approach to Treating Acne

I’m a Corneotherapist. If you’ve not heard this term before, it means I focus on repairing, restoring, and maintaining the skin barrier and its essential functions. By working with the skin’s physiology, we allow it to function normally. Healthy skin comes from a consistent nurturing approach (aka Corneotherapy), but sometimes skin needs additional support.

To help you succeed on your skin health journey, where necessary, I will cover:

K
Gut health and Nutrition
K
Lifestyle
K
Stress management

Although I may touch upon these areas in your consultation, these topics are the subject of our ongoing conversations, aimed at helping you to have an in-depth understanding of your acne triggers.

Plate of food that supports Acne care

Why Corneotherapy?

I’ve chosen to follow skin science, not a trend or fad, because we know from corneobiology that maintaining the skin’s barrier is crucial for skin health. With acne, skin barrier function is impaired, which means inflammation in the skin is continuously triggered. Repairing the barrier can reduce immune responses and promote healthier skin.

How Dermaviduals can Support Acne-prone Skin

Dermaviduals is a Corneotherapeutic skincare range that supports your skin recovery. Its high-quality formulations mimic the skin’s structure, helping repair the skin barrier. Dermaviduals skincare is free from fragrance, colours, emulsifiers, mineral oil, silicones and conventional preservatives -all of which can contribute to irritation in reactive or acneic skin.

Rather than buying a fixed “acne range”, I create what your skin needs.

Cleansing and rebuilding the barrier

A typical starting point will include:

K
A gentle cleanser that removes makeup and SPF without stripping.
K
A DMS (Derma Membrane Structure) cream or lotion, which mimics the structure of healthy skin lipids to support repair and hydration.
dermaviduals functional-skin care

These products help restore comfort and calm, so the skin no longer feels tight, sore or over-reactive.

Targeted Actives for Acne

Dermaviduals offers over 30 active concentrates. I can blend these into prescriptive creams, serums, and masks to address what your skin is showing on any given day. For acne-prone skin, we may work with:

K
Anti-inflammatory and soothing actives
K
Ingredients that help normalise sebum flow
K
Support for the microbiome and barrier lipids
K
Antioxidants to reduce excess oxidative stress

Because these actives are carried in liposomes or nanoparticles made from phospholipids (similar to those in your own skin), they can be delivered effectively without disrupting the barrier.

Supporting Recovery from Marks and Scarring

Once flare-ups are under better control, we can gradually focus more on:

K
Post-inflammatory redness or brown marks
K
Texture irregularities
K
Early scarring

This may include different combinations of Dermaviduals actives alongside in-studio treatments such as microneedling or LED, always at a pace your skin can tolerate.

Please remember: the exact products I recommend are always tailored to you and chosen only after I’ve assessed your skin in person.

Geraldine

"I’ve been seeing Jo regularly for the last few years. She takes a holistic view of skincare and I can truly say that my skin under her care is the best it’s ever been. I used to suffer from hormonal skin and serious pigmentation issues but under Jo’s care it’s the healthiest and clearest skin I’ve had. Most recently Jo has been using microcurrent treatment on my face to rejuvenate and tighten the skin and the results have been fantastic - a refining of my jaw and cheeks and overall luminosity.

Beyond this, Jo takes huge care in her advice and delivery. I always feel so relaxed during and post treatments and I would not go anywhere else. If you care about the long term health of your skin, Jo is your woman."

Chloe

I would 100% recommend microneedling with Jo. I am in my early thirties and chose the treatment to boost collagen to help reduce the future signs of ageing. It’s never too early or too late to start looking after your skin! I have had 3 treatments and am looking forward to seeing the results over the next few months as the effects start to show. I can already see some reduction in faint lines and overall people have been complimenting saying my face is glowing more. Jo put me completely at ease, explaining the process in detail before and during the treatment. I felt very safe in her hands and the great aftercare products really helped to reduce the redness and get my skin looking it’s best. Will definitely be back for more treatments with Jo.

Maria

"I initially booked an appointment with Jo for a facial because I really didn’t know what my skin needed anymore, as I’ve hit perimenopause and my skin has become sensitive to all my usual products. Jo recommended the Dermaviduals assessment, and I was willing to give it a go. Afterwards my skin felt amazing and looked really healthy already. I’m just 3 days in, and already my face feels more comfortable and looks glowy. I found Jo to be very professional and knowledgeable, explaining all aspects of skincare in detail. In an ever-increasingly complicated world being bombarded with information and products you “must have”. It is such a relief to be told you just need 3 products. Fantastic experience, highly recommended."
