Ageing Skin Support in Fleet

Supporting Your Skin Through Every Stage

Ageing is something we all experience, but how your skin changes is as unique as you are. That is why I believe in a personalised, holistic approach grounded in skin science and fully taking account of the individual, you. It is an intelligent and progressive way to approach ageing skin. Many clients I see choose not to have Botox, fillers or aggressive procedures. While there is no judgment here, these treatments go straight to the symptoms without addressing the underlying forces behind the ageing process. At my skin studio in Fleet, Hampshire, I believe it’s essential to treat the whole person, nurture skin health and radiance over time, and enable my clients to enjoy their journey towards better skin. The process itself can be an important and enjoyable element of any self-care routine.

My approach is to work with your skin, not against it—supporting its function, strength, and long-term health so that improvements are natural, progressive, and lasting.

Why is My Skin Ageing?

Ageing Beneath the Surface

Ageing doesn’t just happen on the surface of the skin.

Supporting skin health intelligently and progressively focuses on all of the skin layers and their interplay.

In-Clinic Treatments

Professional treatments improve skin repair and renewal and boost energy, helping to address signs of ageing and slow the natural ageing process when used consistently.

Neutrotris Pico Probes Microcurrent Facial

Neurotris SX3800 Advanced Dynamic Microcurrent -Non-Surgical face lift

Also known as the ‘Non-surgical facial’, microcurrent treatment uses gentle electrical signals to lift, tone, and reeducate facial muscles, producing a natural facelift effect. Each customised treatment also boosts lymphatic drainage, cellular energy (ATP), oxygenation, circulation, cellular renewal and repair, and results in a smoother, lifted, glowing complexion. Neurotris dynamic microcurrent delivers superior results compared to many devices, thanks to its sophisticated technology, which adjusts the microcurrent signals for each client in real time. Treatments are relaxing and even suitable for sensitive, reactive skin types.

Microneedling Anti Ageing Treatment Fleet in my Studio

Microneedling

Also known as collagen induction treatment, microneedling is an advanced, non-invasive treatment which can improve the skin’s overall appearance. Microneedling treatment creates tiny microchannels in the skin’s surface, stimulating the skin’s healing processes and leading to the production of new collagen and elastin fibres, resulting in firmer skin over time. Microneedling treatments help to improve skin density (which naturally thins with age), soften fine lines, improve skin texture and produce a more even skin tone (can help with melasma/hyperpigmentation). Results take time and investment. A course of 4-8 treatments, along with some skin preparation, is required.

Red and Near Infrared Light Treatment

Dermalux Compact Lite

Dermalux professional LED Phototherapy is a powerful, non-invasive skin treatment for all skin types. Clinically proven wavelengths, Red (633 nm) and Near-Infrared ( 830 nm), combine to boost collagen and elastin production and treat the underlying causes of skin ageing, including inflammation, cellular energy decline (ATP), and hyperpigmentation. Available as standalone treatments and courses, and usually included within all my bespoke treatments.

Your personalised skin journey starts here.

If caring for your skin and future skin is a priority, my skin consultation is the place to begin. Your 90-minute appointment is dedicated to understanding your skin as it is now and what it needs to look its best every day. Before your appointment, you’ll complete a comprehensive consultation form, which I’ll review beforehand. On the day, we discuss your concerns and current skin health in more detail. I will assess your skin using a Wood’s lamp, which allows me to see and share with you any underlying pigmentation, dehydration or inflammation that may not be immediately apparent. You’ll also receive an initial treatment, tailored to your skin’s needs, on the day.

Following your appointment, I will email you your personalised skin report, including my assessment of your skin from the consultation, your skincare and treatment plan, and my additional holistic skincare guidance on how you can best support your skin for optimal results and long-term skin health. Intrinsic Ageing

Intrinsic ageing is the natural, biological process of ageing, also called chronological ageing. It is largely determined by your genetics and physiology. Looking after yourself and staying healthy affects your physical body, including your skin. While we cannot prevent intrinsic ageing, we can influence it.

As you age and with hormonal changes, especially those associated with menopause, your skin’s ability to repair and renew slows.

Although the gradual ageing process begins around age 25, many women notice marked skin changes accompanying perimenopause and skin that behaves differently. Let’s look at what’s happening internally:

K
Cell turnover slows, which shows up as a duller complexion, a rougher texture, and slower healing.
K
Collagen-producing cells (fibroblasts) become lazy, which shows up as reduced skin tone and less elasticity.
K
Skin produces less sebum, meaning less lubrication, more water loss (TEWL), increased sensitivity and dryness.
K
The skin barrier can become compromised, leading to dryness, irritation, breakouts, water loss, and fine lines.
K
Chronic low-grade inflammation can accumulate in the body and in the skin with age. Subtle and often undetected, we now call this ‘inflammaging’ as it drives ageing processes. Over time, we see the effects as sensitivity, redness, skin laxity, hyperpigmentation, and lines and wrinkles.
K
The delicate microcirculation of the skin is less efficient, which can lead to a duller complexion and slower healing.
K
Loss of skin thickness, resulting in crepey skin.
K
Less energy (ATP) is produced within skin cells, showing as slower healing and tired-looking skin.
K
Reduced epidermal immune response can cause irritation and sensitivity.
These changes are all normal; how your skin adapts to them, and the symptoms you see, can both be supported.

Extrinsic Ageing

External and lifestyle factors influence extrinsic ageing, so this is where you can take control, especially with the most influential factor: ultraviolet exposure. It’s estimated that 80% of the visible signs of skin ageing are caused by sun exposure over time. I am not simply referring to holidays in hot climates; skin ageing also results from years of everyday sun exposure, which causes cumulative cellular damage, ultimately weakening the skin barrier and leading to structural changes that cause laxity, lines, and wrinkles. In addition, the skin’s pigment, melanin, and the way it is produced and transferred within the skin cells can become irregular, causing an uneven skin tone or dark spots. Wearing suitable sun protection for your lifestyle and activities, with SPF 30-50, daily is an essential step in reducing visible ageing.

Other factors include:
K
Pollution
K
Nutrition
K
Stress
K
Sleep quality
K
Skincare choices
These factors can accelerate visible ageing and impact how your skin functions day to day.

You may notice:

K
Uneven skin tone or pigmentation
K
Dullness or lack of radiance
K
Increased sensitivity or inflammation
K
Loss of skin elasticity
For the best results and long-term healthy skin, make small, consistent changes that involve not only topical skincare and treatments but also your overall health and well-being.

The Role of the Skin Barrier in Ageing

As we get older, supporting the skin barrier is key to slowing the natural ageing process. As lipids are naturally lost and hydration is harder to maintain, strengthening and maintaining the skin barrier topically with bio-mimetic lipids ensures that, even with age, the skin remains calm, inflammation is minimised, skin can hold its natural hydration and not be easily upset by external environmental stressors and irritants or triggered by internal influences. A compromised skin barrier, conversely, is highly susceptible to both extrinsic and intrinsic stressors, which further accelerate skin ageing.

You may notice:
K
Dryness that doesn’t resolve
K
Sensitivity to products
K
Redness or inflammation
K
Skin that feels less comfortable
A compromised barrier also means your skin cannot function optimally, which can accelerate visible ageing. This makes restoring and maintaining the skin’s barrier a foundational priority.

Supporting Skin Function from Within

Healthy skin relies on communication within the skin itself.

Skin cells constantly send signals to one another, guiding repair, renewal, and protection. This process depends on cellular energy, produced by structures within each cell called mitochondria.

Over time, energy production declines. When this happens, the skin becomes slower to repair, and visible signs of ageing become more apparent.

Inflammation also plays a role.

  • Short-term inflammation (for example, after a controlled treatment or minor injury) can be beneficial. It triggers healing and renewal.
  • Inflammation over time, the new term inflammaging, refers to low-level chronic inflammation which gently simmers in the body and skin and may go unnoticed. It gradually breaks down collagen, weakens the skin, and accelerates ageing.

We aim to support healthy repair while reducing unnecessary, chronic inflammation.

Active Skincare

When it comes to using active skincare, my advice is to be mindful of your skin’s health first and of the marketing and sales talk around the products you buy. Prioritising skin barrier health is foundational; when optimally established, it enables better skin outcomes and treatment results and usually helps avoid adverse reactions, such as sensitivity and irritation. This is where tailored guidance stands apart compared to impulse purchasing. Other trusted skin therapists whom I know in the industry, and I often see and hear about unfavourable skin reactions and sensitivity, often as a result of unsuitable skincare and sometimes treatments.

When applied appropriately, topical skincare with an effective delivery system, as recommended by a trained professional, is an effective way to improve your skin’s appearance and should be part of any treatment plan if you’re seeking optimal results.

Active Skincare for Healthy Ageing

A Considered Approach to Skin Ageing

My approach has evolved over decades of treating clients and their skin. I don’t offer quick fixes or fad treatments that deliver only temporary change. It’s about understanding your skin’s physiology, supporting its function, and working progressively across all skin layers, fascia, and muscle tissues to help you achieve lasting skin health, increased muscle tone, a glow that comes from within, and stronger skin that is more resistant to ageing.

Self-care – It’s about more than your skin!

The stress response can trigger increased inflammation, which can negatively affect the skin, so managing stress is important. Many of my clients tell me that their facial treatments are essential parts of their regular self-care routine, giving them space and time to breathe, relax, and even nod off during their skin treatments. After decades of working with women and from my own busy life, I have developed an intuitive approach and always aim to deliver what each client needs during their appointment. Relaxing the mind and body allows the central nervous system to reset, making this an essential element of my treatments for many clients.

Geraldine

"I’ve been seeing Jo regularly for the last few years. She takes a holistic view of skincare and I can truly say that my skin under her care is the best it’s ever been. I used to suffer from hormonal skin and serious pigmentation issues but under Jo’s care it’s the healthiest and clearest skin I’ve had. Most recently Jo has been using microcurrent treatment on my face to rejuvenate and tighten the skin and the results have been fantastic - a refining of my jaw and cheeks and overall luminosity.

Beyond this, Jo takes huge care in her advice and delivery. I always feel so relaxed during and post treatments and I would not go anywhere else. If you care about the long term health of your skin, Jo is your woman."

Chloe

I would 100% recommend microneedling with Jo. I am in my early thirties and chose the treatment to boost collagen to help reduce the future signs of ageing. It’s never too early or too late to start looking after your skin! I have had 3 treatments and am looking forward to seeing the results over the next few months as the effects start to show. I can already see some reduction in faint lines and overall people have been complimenting saying my face is glowing more. Jo put me completely at ease, explaining the process in detail before and during the treatment. I felt very safe in her hands and the great aftercare products really helped to reduce the redness and get my skin looking it’s best. Will definitely be back for more treatments with Jo.

Maria

"I initially booked an appointment with Jo for a facial because I really didn’t know what my skin needed anymore, as I’ve hit perimenopause and my skin has become sensitive to all my usual products. Jo recommended the Dermaviduals assessment, and I was willing to give it a go. Afterwards my skin felt amazing and looked really healthy already. I’m just 3 days in, and already my face feels more comfortable and looks glowy. I found Jo to be very professional and knowledgeable, explaining all aspects of skincare in detail. In an ever-increasingly complicated world being bombarded with information and products you “must have”. It is such a relief to be told you just need 3 products. Fantastic experience, highly recommended."
