How I use at-home LED alongside Dermalux and my in-studio treatments in Fleet.
If you’re holistic in your approach to skin health, you’ll already know this truth: sadly, no one magic product transforms your skin. It’s the steady, supportive habits that help your skin do its job well.
That’s precisely why I’m a fan of well-made at-home LED masks, especially when they’re used to support your skin’s overall health and the treatments I offer here in Fleet.
In this post, I’m focusing on three devices that many clients ask about: faceLITE, decoLITE, and handLITE. I’ll also explain how they complement in-studio custom, LED sessions with Dermalux.
What is an at-home red light therapy mask?
At-home LED masks are wearable devices that use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to deliver specific, therapeutic wavelengths of light to the skin.
faceLite, decoLite and handLite all use two studioally proven wavelengths: red light (633nm) and near-infrared light (830nm). These wavelengths stimulate collagen and elastin production, helping to slow the visible signs of skin ageing. With so many devices on the market, I choose to recommend this device, as its technology is supported by science with over 32 peer-reviewed studioal papers. Additionally, faceLite is FDA-cleared for reducing fine lines.
How does red and near-infrared light work?
You might also hear this called photobiomodulation. In simple terms, the light energy is absorbed by cells and can influence how efficiently they function, including cellular energy (ATP) and signalling processes.
What does the evidence say (numbers, not hype)
A well-known split-face, randomised, placebo-controlled trial using 633nm and 830nm LED reported objectively measured reductions in wrinkles (up to 36%) and increases in skin elasticity (up to 19%) in treated groups.
My take: the best results come from consistent use, with realistic expectations. LED is not a one-and-done treatment; it’s a steady support tool.
Why I like LED at home for skin health
As a Corneotherapist, my job is to work with the skin’s physiology while respecting its barrier. Sometimes I help clients repair and restore their skin barrier (redness, sensitivity, and inflammation are symptoms of a compromised skin barrier). From a barrier-first perspective, LED is an excellent option because it’s a non-invasive, trauma-free method for skin healing, repair, and rejuvenation. It doesn’t strip the skin and doesn’t rely on inflammation to force change.
That can matter if you’re sensitive, redness-prone, or you’re trying to age well without overdoing actives.
How an at-home mask supports my in-studio treatments
Bespoke Dermaviduals facials
In studio, I tailor the treatment to your skin on the day, which may also include the application of Dermalux LED. At home, LED can be your weekly ‘between appointments’ skin treatment to enhance your treatment results.
Skin consultations and Mi Skin Prescription
If you’re seeking to improve your skin or work in a preventive way (slow down the signs of visible ageing), a personalised approach, through a Consultation and skin assessment, gives you clarity and a plan. LED can fit into that plan, but only if it aligns with your skin goals and your barrier can tolerate it right now.
Microneedling
In studio, I apply near-infrared light only immediately following my microneedling treatments, as this has a calming effect on the skin without reducing the skin’s natural inflammatory response (post-needling, controlled inflammation, leads to collagen induction). At home and in between microneedling treatments, faceLITE is applied to help recovery and optimise collagen induction for enhanced results. Timing matters, so I’ll always guide you on when to introduce at-home LED after in-studio treatments.
Dynamic microcurrent Neurotris PicoWave facials and Signature Face Lift Massage
This treatment supports healthy skin barrier function, visibly improves the skin’s elasticity and tones facial muscles for a more lifted and sculpted face, with natural results. Both PicoWave Dynamic microcurrent and home LED stimulation increase cellular ATP levels, so faceLite and decoLite support this effective, skin-rejuvenating in-studio treatment.
Facelift massage
For those who love massage-based therapies, my Signature Facelift massage offers facial sculpting, lifting and relaxation in one. FaceLITE and decoLITE can be the perfect complementary treatment to improve blood flow, tissue oxygenation, and skin glow at home between treatments.
Dermalux Professional
I also offer custom Dermalux LED phototherapy in studio. It’s non-invasive and uses specific bands of light to support the skin’s natural repair and recovery. In studio, I see and treat a range of skin concerns. Most often, clients have treatments to calm irritation and redness, as well as to treat breakouts or acne. I’ve also supported clients following surgery (hip replacement, knee replacement, skin cancer and mole removal), applying wavelengths specifically to minimise inflammation, swelling, and any pain, and to accelerate wound healing and improve the resulting scar tissue for optimal aesthetic outcome.
My Compact Lite (professional-only) Dermalux device uses studioally established wavelengths, including 415nm (blue), 633nm (red), and 830nm (near-infrared). I personalise treatments in studio with both wavelengths and energy (joules) personalised to the skin I am treating, for optimal studioal results.
faceLITE & decoLITE, what are they and who it suits
The faceLITE & decoLITE use red 633nm and near-infrared 830nm light.
Both recommend three to five, 10-minute treatments per week for 4–6 weeks, followed by maintenance as desired.
That schedule makes sense because LED results are cumulative. You are supporting your skin over time, not chasing an overnight change.
decoLITE
decoLITE is used to treat the décolletage. With age, it can become a neglected and sun-damaged area. The bib-like shape, along with a neck band, fits perfectly and treats this area and the neck. decoLite can also be applied to reduce sensitivity (resulting from sun damage) and rejuvenate this delicate area, and to improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, resulting in a more even skin tone.
handLITE: don’t forget your hands
I’m a big fan of handLite. Having some Hyperpigmentation and crinkly skin on my hands, I have seen a noticeable improvement in my skin texture, and my pigmentation marks have lightened after just 4 weeks. Feedback from clients who have also invested has been positive; my clients have seen real improvement within just a few weeks. The handLITE is easy to use, takes just 10 minutes per hand, and is ideal when hands are exposed to UV, cold weather, detergents, and daily washing. handLITE has also received FDA clearance for the treatment of irritant contact dermatitis, with 96% reporting significant improvement after one treatment course.
handLite uses the same dual wavelengths: 633nm and 830nm.
How to use a red light mask properly
Before your session
Cleanse gently and dry the skin. Keep it mostly bare, so light isn’t blocked by heavy products.
Frequency
Aim for consistency. A simple starting point is the faceLITE guidance: 3–5 sessions per week for 4–6 weeks, then maintenance.
After your session
Rehydrate and keep the rest of your routine simple. Think barrier support, not over-correction.
Safety and who should take extra care
The American Academy of Dermatology notes that red-light devices are considered safe, while also pointing out that long-term effects are still being studied.
Harvard Health also suggests choosing FDA-cleared devices, protecting the eyes, and exercising extra caution if you have photosensitivity or take medicines that increase light sensitivity.
My honest take: when it’s worth it
An at-home LED mask is worth it when you treat it like a long-term support tool. It works best alongside a skin-barrier-supportive routine and a professional plan.
