Facial Massage vs. High-Tech Aesthetic Treatments: Which Is Best for You?
I’ve been a passionate enthusiast of facial massage since learning my very first routine back in 1985! I count myself as a veteran facial masseuse, and despite my love of massage tools, my hands remain my favourite.
Human touch, in many ways, cannot be rivalled when it feels good for the recipient, and getting my hands on a face is a joy.
Want a massage that feels like a facial workout while you chill out?
I believe every massage should be memorable for the right reasons and worth every penny! My face lift massage is designed to leave you feeling like your face has had a workout, whilst you remain fabulously relaxed.
Face lift massage is my signature facial sculpting treatment, an active combination of fascia (connective tissue) stretching techniques, and lifting and smoothing movements that leave my clients looking refreshed, lighter, and brighter in the face. Born from my true joy of helping clients relax, my experience, clinical observations (post-treatment), additional training, experimentation with techniques, and essential client feedback have culminated in my signature offering.
You may be tempted to think of facial massage as a fluffy treatment, especially in the aesthetics arena with many high-tech devices and treatments available. However, when performed correctly, facial sculpting massages can lift and define facial contours, smooth expression lines, improve skin health, and leave you feeling as though you're floating on air.
As we age, some muscles in the face tighten, and fascial restrictions form, holding tightness that can accentuate lines and wrinkles. Releasing these muscles through massage is a way of re-educating them to relax and soften - thus helping with anti-ageing. Physiologically, facial massage increases blood flow to the skin, bringing vital nutrients and encouraging lymphatic flow, removing waste and toxins. For skin that appears sluggish, dull, or puffy, facial massage can be the perfect treatment - either as a stand-alone or complementary to other treatments.
Taking Care of Yourself
Massage is an especially nurturing treatment. I’ve witnessed client anxiety and mood shift completely many, many times following their treatment. Gifting yourself time to relax and truly unwind in safe hands calms the central nervous system, allowing the body to release tensions you may be holding onto. In our fast-paced world, treatments that signal relaxation for both mind and body offer a safe space of nurture and comfort. In Eastern traditions such as acupuncture, there are 300 pressure points throughout the body, with over 200 located in the upper body, including the face, head, neck, and shoulders.
Fascia
Treatment begins with some "tuning in" time, allowing me to intuitively connect with my client through breathing before commencing gentle but firm stretching movements through the upper chest, shoulders, and neck. My massage techniques flow seamlessly from one movement to the next, including each area of the face, as well as the scalp and ears. There are no barriers when working with fascia, as its connective network of tissue does not end. Releasing fascial restrictions through the shoulders and neck is essential for lifting the face.
Overall Health
Facial massage is often therapeutic for clients who experience tension headaches, sinus congestion, and jaw stiffness (TMJ) problems. Relaxing the central nervous system puts the body into repair and regeneration mode, something most people can benefit from alongside facial massage.
Corneotherapeutic Treatments
As a Corneotherapist, I only offer treatments that support and promote healthy skin. Facial massage has always been, and remains, supportive and therapeutic for the skin. There are occasions where facial massage would not be appropriate, such as when a client has active acne or a rosacea flare-up. Massage is the most adaptable treatment - when delivered with care and intuition, it can transport any receptive client into a state of deep, blissful relaxation.
Should You Try It?
If you appreciate touch therapy of any kind and have a holistic view of skin health, facial massage is a fantastic treatment choice. If you want a treatment that stimulates the skin’s overall health and can lighten and lift facial contours, leaving you looking fresher and feeling calm and relaxed, I recommend giving my massage a try.
